Ginger is a cosmetic chemist who developed a new lip balm inspired by an interaction with Shark Tank’s Daymond John.
Listen to Ginger’s idea from Episode 116 of How Cool Is This? and read a transcript of the full 5 minute podcast episode below:
BRIAN: Nick, how cool was Ginger's idea for FanLoveBeauty and vegan lipstick?
NICK: This is a pretty cool idea, and she's right to say that if you're going to put something on your lips every day, you want it to be a good product .
BRIAN: You don't want to put anything uncool on your lips.
NICK: And that goes for lip balm. drinks, food, or other people's lips.
BRIAN: Sometimes you put food on your lips that you know makes you uncool, but you can't stop yourself.
NICK: Right. Sloppily eating some wings doesn't make you look cool, but you do put it to your lips.
BRIAN: Would it be cooler if someone who you looked up to, like Damond John, was sloppily eating wings and made you feel cooler in doing so yourself?
NICK: I mean, if Damon does it, then it's cool. Kind of hard to deny that.
BRIAN: How cool is it for us to talk about an idea related to Shark Tank, a television program many people have said our podcast is like.
NICK: Shark Tank does provide people with good ideas something great in the form of funding. But the personalities on the show aren't as in tune with what's cool as we are.
BRIAN: No, those personalities are D’s. And without that…that's what our show is, which is fun-ing. We’re fun.
NICK: Um, do you think, the people on Shark Tank, could do this show?
BRIAN: Daymond John is pretty cool. Cuban… he's in touch with what's cool.
NICK: I like to think that we bring something unique to this pod that the people on Shark Tank, can't. They’re a lot of flash, they’re people who look good on TV, and have that kind of business look about them. But that's not what we're about because you can't see us here. You can only hear us.
BRIAN: That's also because they're using products like FanLoveBeauty.
NICK: Ginger did mention that the lip balm is perfect for people to do a lot of speaking, which I would argue is us.
BRIAN: That's true. I am not sure how a lip balm could help with speaking, but knowing that the claim has been made intriguing.
NICK: Your lips don't get dry after long session of podding? Mine do.
BRIAN: They do sometimes. I guess Ginger has developed The Podcaster’s Balm.
NICK: Much like a product that soothes the hands of people who work a lot with their hands, podcasters need help too. And the what we use a lot of are our lips.
BRIAN: She did mention that it is a vegan product. Is that cool?
NICK: I am not personally vegan. I like to eat meat. I don't really have a reason beyond that. Bu, I support products that generally don't have a negative impact on the environment, and a vegan lip balm seems to be something that wouldn't have a negative impact on the environment.
BRIAN: And there are people who are vegan, not because of environmental concerns, but because of dietary concerns. So while FanLoveBeauty goes on your lips, not in your lips, it's still something that might be an option for people who otherwise wouldn't have an option, and that's cool.
NICK: That's true. If you're vegan, you still deserve to have a lip balm. We will stand up for the rights of vegan podcasters, even if no one else will.
BRIAN: And I don't know if that makes us cooler, but it is who we are. Not vegan podcasters…but we support them… but we're not them.
NICK: We support them, but we're not them.
BRIAN: But we’re not, no.
NICK: Do you think our podcast would get even cooler if we could work with Damond John? It does seem like Daymond John was able to help out Ginger quite a bit with FanLoveBeauty.
BRIAN: If How Cool Is This? becomes a stadium production, that loses some of our under-the-radar, perceptions on coolness.
NICK: . This is a podcast for the cool heads. ,
BRIAN: In a stadium setting, those cool heads might turn into hot heads.
NICK: We don't want any hot heads here.
