The Founder of Podcast.Co and Matchmaker.FM joined episode 44 of How Cool Is This? to pitch an idea that can benefit people who thrive on the attention of crowds but can no longer safely organize gatherings.

James: Hi, my name is James Mulvany. I'm Founder of Podcast.co and MatchMaker.fm. Both are platforms in the podcasting space. Today, I'm here to propose a question for you, which is: have you been or would you like to go on a podcast tour?
Perhaps you're an expert in a certain field or perhaps you're bringing a new product or service to market. The concept of a podcast tour is really simple. It is literally going on a tour on as many different podcasts as you can and appearing as a guest to not only promote what you're trying to promote, but also to try and impart knowledge and share your skills, your expertise with other people.
So for example, right now I'm trying to appear on 30 podcasts within 30 days. If I can achieve more than this, then absolutely great.
Going on a podcast tour is a fantastic way to expose yourself to a very wide audience. You can appear on many podcasts discussing a topic you’re an expert in and having some fascinating conversations with some really interesting people. Also, while pitching your new products and new service or just trying to grow your personal brand.
Matchmaker’s really been designed as a platform that makes it so simple to do this, because we have and engaged community of podcasters and lots of high profile guests or constantly looking for opportunities to interview people.

Nick: Brian, how cool is going on a podcast tour?
Brian: Right now, as far as going on a tour goes, it’s the coolest you can get.
Nick: Yeah, I think it is closest you can get to going anywhere right now, even if it's just in the digital audio space.
Brian: I feel like going on a tour used to be cool. Now it's very much not because, you know, you're exposing people to serious illness, and just breaking many laws - and not in the cool way. But… this is a safe way to do that.
Nick: This is a safest way to basically go many different places almost at once. It seems like you could talk to 30, 50, a hundred different people in one afternoon if you were really ambitious.
Brian: But you also have to be interesting enough to make it onto their podcasts.
Nick: Speaking of, Brian, if you went on a podcast tour, what would you be promoting?
Brian: I don't know if I would go on a podcast tour. It feels too self-promotional for me. And I like to promote myself!
Nick: I'm not opposed to the idea of going on podcast tour. It might be kind of cool to have other people ask us the questions for a change.
Brian: Well, we don't ask people questions. We just talk about their ideas.
Nick: So instead of talking about other people's ideas, we would just be talking about our idea, which we vowed not to do at the very beginning of this podcast.
Brian: Yeah, the entire premise is that nobody wants to hear our ideas, so... what are other people's ideas?
Nick: Right, so if we went on a podcast tour, and if we were holding true to our values, which I would hope that we would do even while on tour, I guess we could talk about the best ideas that we've heard so far, the coolest things.
Brian: Sounds like a lot of work.
Nick: It does sound like a lot of work, but we have put quite a bit of effort into becoming experts on cool and determining whether or not things are cool. Because it does sound like to go on a podcast tour you need to be an expert at something. You can't just be a regular normal person.
Brian: How cool is it for him to promote his business like this?
Nick: I think it's fine. I think it's cool. We've had quite a few people come on this podcast and promote their businesses, so I'm not opposed.
Brian: I suppose if you are trying to sell a podcast tour it helps to have gone on a podcast tour.
Nick: Do you think that James went on a podcast tour to promote the idea of going on a podcast tour?
Brian: I think he realized that people going on a podcast tour would use his business more, so he went on a podcast tour to pitch that to other people. Which is cool.
Nick: Yeah, I don't mind self-promotion, even though I would say that I'm not very good at it.
Brian: It's cool to be willing to do the thing that you tell other people to do.
Nick: Right, he's not asking people to do something that he wouldn't do himself, and that's cool.
Brian: Michael Jordan said that about himself to not feel like an asshole.
Nick: Sometimes even when you do things to make yourself not feel like an asshole you're still an asshole, Michael.
Brian: But that doesn't mean you're not cool.
Nick: Unfortunately, you can be an asshole and be cool.
